Will You Tell Somebody the Good News

Have you ever had someone whom you had just met or just had a conversation with, passing away suddenly? This person could have died from a stroke, heart attack or brain haemorrhage etc. We cannot always assume that we have enough time to share the Gospel with those who are yet to be saved around us.

Luke 16:22-26 22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.24 “Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’ 25 But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. 26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.

Both the rich man and Lazarus the beggar died and went to the two compartments (Hades and Abraham’s bosom/Paradise) for the dead which existed before Christ’s redemptive work. Many of us complain about life being unfair but there is one occasion when everything is fair, that is we will all die.

Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.

Death will knock on all of our doors despite our wealth or social status and we will never know when. All of us will die once physically but there are two kinds of deaths i.e. physical and spiritual deaths. Those who do not have Christ in their lives will die spiritually and be eternally separated from God. While we cannot decide when we will die physically, we can choose not to be separated from God spiritually by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour.

1 Cor 15:56-57 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

The sting of death is lethal and powerful. The law tells us what sin is and if we die in sin without acknowledging Jesus as our Saviour, then the sting of death will send us right to hell. It is the second death after the physical death, and we are separated from God forever. There is no second chance. There is an urgency to tell others the Gospel and we should never assume we always have enough time to do so before it is too late.
