What Are the Flaming Arrows?
ICS Daily Devotions
Ephesians 6:16 (AMP): lift up over all the (covering) shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked (one).
The Apostle Paul urges us to use the shield of faith to quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked one. What are these flaming missiles or arrows? They are thoughts of one kind or another—doubts, fears, worries, and so on. Spiritual wickedness refers to their acts as highly harmful or destructive, with one objective—wickedness or killing, stealing, or destroying through afflictions and oppressions.
Here are some examples of the flaming missiles and how to lift up the shield of faith to quench them with the Word:
Schemes: Don’t be ignorant of his schemes and devices
2 Corinthians 2:11 (NJKV) lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.
Stalks: Know he exists
1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV) Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
Accuses: Know he accuses
Revelations 12:10 (NKJV) Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.
Afflicts: Know he is still afflicting
Luke 13:16 (NKJV) So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound — think of it — for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?”
Oppresses: He still oppresses
Acts 10:38 (NKJV) how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.
Deceives: He still deceives
2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 (NKJV) The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
Hinders: Know he hinders your work
1 Thessalonians 2:18 (NKJV) Therefore we wanted to come to you — even I, Paul, time and again—but Satan hindered us.
Murders: He still murders
John 8:44 (NKJV) You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.
Prompts: He puts evil thoughts into the hearts of people
John 13:2 (NKJV) And supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him
