The Fullness and Grace of God
John 1:16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.
This is one of the most powerful verses that helps us to comprehend the God that we believe in.
Jesus is very God! To Him belong all the attributes of Jehovah. In Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. He has the fullness of omnipotence and all power is given to him as Mediator in heaven and in earth. Omnipresence is His to perfection. Think as you may, your thought cannot describe or compass God; for God is all that is good and blessed. All of God’s attributes are contained and represented in Christ Jesus in their fullness, not diminished by his humiliation, but resplendent by his triumph.
Notice the next neat words “grace for grace”. It does not say “Of His fullness, have we all purchased earned a share.” We have just passively received just as a vessel that has water flowing into it by doing nothing. God’s glory is His grace. The amazing grace of the Father was exemplified in the life and ministry of Jesus who loved the sinners that man hates and despairs.
Be it clear, however, that there is and must be a personal reception in every case. “Of His fullness have we all received.” No one of us can receive it transmitted from another, but each one of us receives it directly from Him.
We have grace in abundance like the waves of the sea. Wave follows wave and so is God’s grace “Grace for grace.” Grace for salvation and grace for living for Him. Grace for the living the life on this earth with all the trials and tribulation that comes our way. And another grace of God that flows out of our lives towards the people around us so that they may see Christ in us.
John 1:18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
One of the most exciting revelations is that we can truly know God by studying the life and ministry of Jesus because it enables us to anchor our faith in Him. It gives us a very clear idea who God is, and what He will do or react to our need. This will help us greatly in our walk with Him and knowing God personally.
