Simple Faith
1 Samuel 17:48 -50 (NKJV) So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hastened and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. But there was no sword in the hand of David.
Goliath came forward to attack David. David confronted him head on without wavering in his faith. Likewise, confront your fear!
By faith, he took a stone and slung it at Goliath. The Lord took it and sank it into Goliath’s forehead and David killed him without a sword in his hand! David wasn’t even in full battle order.
David used what he knew best, not the sling shot but trusting God to deliver! David went in faith. Faith in action by using a sling shot. The shepherd boy who had no training nor proper armor of war defeated the Philistine giant purely based on his simple faith in God’s faithfulness to His covenant.
There might be times when God leads you in your business which is totally contrary to what you have studied or are accustomed to. It might just be a simple instruction. Are you willing to follow?
Just like Peter and the fishermen who caught no fish throughout the night but when Jesus told him to throw the net to the right of the boat, Peter obeyed and they caught loads of fishes!
David by faith and through faith subdued the giant Goliath, escaped the sword of Goliath and experienced the deliverance of the Israelites from the Philistines. His name is written in the hall of faith. It took a young lad like David who had faith in God to embarrass those professional soldiers and King Saul. All of them had the same covenant with God and could have called upon the Lord. David’s faith in God did not begin with defeating Goliath, a warrior who stood at 3m towering above everyone else. David started and exercised his faith when bears and lions came against him and his sheep! Likewise, let us begin our faith walk in the little things and trust God with His abilities to deliver us during this COVID-19 and global economic crisis. The word “to deliver” in Hebrew = yasha means saves, helps, gives victory, preserves, avenges (Strong’s Concordance 3467). He is still the same God who delivered David and the Israelites from Goliath. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
It would be wonderful to be able to journal all the tribulations and victories that we have obtained with the help of God to leave as an inheritance for our families. All of our names are written in the hall of faith because we are asked by the Lord that the righteous shall live by faith. A faith that is grounded upon a covenant God, Jehovah.
