The Way Up Is Down
Message by Ps Carol Koh, 21 Apr 2024, 10am service
Main Passage: Colossians 3:22-24, Revelations 2:4
“Servants, do what you’re told by your earthly masters. And don’t just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you’re serving is Christ.”
Colossians 3:22-24 (MSG)
- Tony Cooke shared 3 lessons he learned in his early ministry, which of the 3 lessons resonated with you? Why? Has the Holy Spirit ever spoken a word of correction to you about your attitude or your performance? What changes did you make? Give some examples of how you do your work as unto the Lord instead of as unto men. How would you serve others according to how you would want to be served?
(Matt 7:12; Luke 16:10–12; Hebrews 12:11; Eph 4:11-12; 1 Pet 2:9-10, 21) - What are 4 commitments that can help us grow as supportive ministers? What are actionable steps to keep to these commitments in our development? Are you aware of your calling? How are you fulfilling it? How are you supporting your pastor in the context of teamwork?
(Matt 16:18; Rev 2:4; Mk 3:14-15; Rom 11:29, 1 Cor 1:26-29, 16:16; Heb 13:17) - What is your perspective of work in the world and in the church? Do you view your work as serving the Lord? Or has your work become routine? “Ministry work is not a substitute for a vibrant relationship with the Lord” (Tony Cooke). Does your work for the Lord draw you closer or further away from Him in terms of personal relationship?
(Ps 90:17; 1 Cor 12:6; Rom 4:4-6; Heb 6:10; 2 Tim 2:15, 3:17; Eph 4:1-4)
