Main Passage: John 15:1-11
Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit.
John 15:4-5
- Jesus used the metaphor of a vine and its branches to illustrate spiritual truth on fruitfulness. Who are the 3 characters mentioned? How do you relate to each of the character? What do you understand by the 3 types of vines (past, present and future) in the bible? Why is this spiritual truth important to us as believers in Christ?
(Matt. 21:33–46; Ps. 80:8–19; Isa. 5:1–7; Jer. 2:21; Hosea 10:1; Rev 14:14–20) - “Pruning is a critical process towards fruitfulness,” do you agree? Have you ever experienced pruning in your journey of faith? What happened? What did you discover in the pruning process? Why do you think God’s pruning is good for us?
(Jn 13:10, 14:10-12, 14:27, 15:5, 15:11, 15:7b; Eph 5:26-27, Heb 12:1-11; 2 Cor 3:18; Rom 6:22) - Our communion with Christ through the Spirit leads us to bear fruit in our life. What is the condition to being fruitful? How do we know we are bearing fruit? What was the evidence? When we remain in Jesus, we experience the overflowing of joy. What must we do to remain in Christ?
(Rom 8:5-14; Gal 5:22-23; Romans 5:2-5; Eph 4:2–5)
