Holding Fast To The Truth
Message by Ps Carol Koh, 4 Aug 2024, 10am service
Main Passage: 1 Tim 1:3-6 (NIV), 2 Tim 1:13-14 (NLT), 2 Tim 2:14-16 (NLT), 2 Tim 4:3-4 (NLT)
Hold on to the pattern of wholesome teaching you learned from me—a pattern shaped by the faith and love that you have in Christ Jesus. Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you.
2 Tim 1:13-14 (NLT)
- Have you ever held fast to something in your life? How long was it and what kept you going? What does knowing God and knowing His word mean? In I Tim 1:3-6, Paul warns us against false teachings. How can we avoid falling into confusion? Share your thoughts. Someone said, “To correctly tell the truth, one must first know the truth.” How do we know the truth of God? In what ways?
(Jn 1:1-5, 14; Rev 19:13; Gal 1:6-7; Rom 1:6-17; 1 Cor 9:17; Col 1:25; 1 Jn 5:20) - In 2 Tim 1:13-14, Paul admonishes Timothy to hold fast the pattern of sound words and to guard the truth entrusted to him. Are you afraid to share the Word of God with others around you? How was your experience in sharing your faith or to tell others, the Word of God? What are your challenges? How can you overcome the fear? Share 1 thing that you will act upon.
(2 Tim 1:11–14; 1 Pet 4:10-11; Eph 4:11-15; Matt 8:8; Rom 9:1; Zec 8:16; Ps 15) - In John 8:32, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Why is it important for us to walk in the truth as followers of Jesus? Does your behaviour draw people to the Gospel or repel them? What is your understanding on discretion? How would you exercise discretion at home, work, church? Give an example.
