Peace that Rules in Our Heart
John 14:26-27 (NKJV) But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Jesus mentioned that He wants us to have His peace, it is an inner calm, tranquility, and quietness in the midst of an adverse situation because there will be tribulation on this earth. This peace that He has left with us is the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit. This peace is part of the fruit of the Holy Spirit that holds us together even though the world around us is falling apart. God will infuse His grace through the enabling power of the Holy Spirit to hold us up in the midst of chaos. The Holy Spirit will bring scriptures to our memory to comfort us so that we will not be focused on the circumstances.
2 Peter 1:2-3 (NKJV) Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
There is a multiplication of God’s grace and peace when we know God and His word because faith comes by hearing and the hearing of God’s word. There will be tribulation on this earth because we live in a broken world and it will not get better until we go to heaven.
We need to differentiate between what is faith, foolishness and presumption in the midst of this Covid-19 crisis. It will be foolish to venture into Wuhan or any medical facilities designated for the containment of the virus unless we are medical staff. It will be presumptuous for us not to take any precautionary measures as per advice of the ministry of health. We can have faith in God that He will protect us if we need to be out to buy groceries and carry out normal errands. Therefore, peace is multiplied in our heart when we know that we have peace with God. He is our shield and hiding place. The knowledge of the truth that we have peace with God helps us to keep the peace.
We can take heart because Jesus has given us His peace. God’s kind of peace is mixed with the grace of God that sustains us in times of crisis. We will experience the peace of God that rules in our heart when we are faced with a crisis especially during this period when we are experiencing the coronavirus outbreak. The other truth that brings peace in our heart is God will never leave us nor forsake us because nothing will be able to separate us from His love.
