No Shame in Christ

Psalms 8:5-6 Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor. You gave them charge of everything you made, putting all things under their authority

Man was first created to have fellowship with God, to reflect His glory and be His representative wherever he went. He was placed in a position of authority, glory and honour, but the devil hated this and made man fall from his original purpose for God. Today, he still tries to keep believers from understanding their position in God’s kingdom.

Gen 3:7-10 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”

The enemy wanted Adam and Eve to experience shame—a consequence of sin. Similarly, he may try to shame you in an area of your life where God wants to use you, but shame is not from God! Adam and Eve felt naked and ashamed, so they hid from God. Likewise, when we sin, shame often comes in, causing us to run from God instead of to Him, but because of the cross of Jesus, we have been cleansed through His blood, and every time we repent, He forgives us!

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Nonetheless, after we repent, the enemy may still try to place shame on us by reminding us of our past, but Scripture says that there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ (Rom 8:1).

Jesus died for our sins, sicknesses and shame—all part of the curse resulting from the Fall. He became a curse so that we would not have to live under the curse. Therefore, when the enemy tries to put shame on you again, remember that it has been dealt with through the cross, once and for all!
