No Schism in the Body of Christ
1 Corinthians 12: 25-26,31 That there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it……. But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.
All of us are very gifted regardless whether it is in the area of natural talents or spiritual gifts. However, we are never meant to function alone no matter how talented or gifted we are because we are the body of Christ. Neither should we allow individualism, the work of the flesh or the devil to divide and conquer the body of Christ. One of the greatest challenges in the local or international church is for the entire church to work together and function as a body of believers. Therefore, the Apostle Paul mentioned the more excellent way is to walk in love towards one another. We should show care, love and concern for one another.
One way to express love is to unite as a body and desire nothing else except to fulfill what the Lord has called the church to do.
Philippians 2:1-3 Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.
The most challenging role that the Senior Pastor needs to do, is to LEAD the church towards Point B in order to fulfill the mandate. There will be resistance because it requires obedience, submission and at times sacrifices. It is during moments like these where there will be possibly push backs, unkind words and at times outward rebellion or division in the church. It is an unhealthy moment because individuals or groups have their personal agenda and unproductive because lots of energy is spent on resolving conflicts. Nobody wins in this situation except the devil who is out to kill, steal and destroy.
In order to facilitate church growth, we have to lay down our rights and lots of dying to self.
God is interested in building the church. The church represents Him to the world therefore the church has to be strong.
If the church wants to grow then they have to think alike, united as one, have the spirit of love, cooperation and the passion for God.
