No Longer Slaves

Romans 8:2 (NKJV) the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

We were under the slavery of sin and tormented by the devil just like the Israelites were under physical slavery and the torment of the Pharaoh. Similarly, just like the Israelites were unable to free themselves from the Pharaoh, we were unable to free ourselves from the slavery of sin because of the sin nature.

Because the sin nature held us in slavery to sin before we accepted Christ into our lives, there are habitual sins that held us captive such as hatred, unforgiveness, bitterness, rage, addiction and substance abuse. It is the law of sin and death operating in the life of an unbeliever.

Just like the law of gravity applies to everyone and keeps all of us grounded on earth, sin reigns in the lives of all people. Nobody is able to break free from gravity unless we apply the law of aerodynamics, which is what makes an airplane take off. Likewise, when we walk in the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, we can break free from the domination and slavery of the law of sin and death!

God sent His only Son to be the ultimate sacrifice for sin. Jesus dealt with the sin issue by becoming sin for us on the cross and delivered us from sin by the power of His blood. Therefore, we are a new creation once we have accepted Christ into our lives. While the law of sin and death is dominated by the sin nature, the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus is a life that is empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Although our lives changed for the better the moment we accepted Jesus Christ into our lives, we can either choose to allow our flesh to continue to dominate us because we are so used to the habits of the sinful nature, or we can choose to empower the law of the Spirit in Christ Jesus that has set us free from the domination of the flesh! This is possible because our spirit man is a new creation, it has the nature of God and the Holy Spirit residing in us, and the same resurrection power enables us to have victory over temptation.

As Christians, we need to be decisive to leave the slavery from sin since we have been set free, be eager to pursue it and walk out the newness of life by faith. By faith, we are to stand on this truth that we have been set free from sin and the chains are broken, so we can walk in righteousness!

Romans 6:18 (NKJV) And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
