Living Out God’s Will
John 12:20-23 Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast. Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus. But Jesus answered them, saying, “The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified.
Easter is typically a time to reflect on Jesus’ sufferings and His ultimate redemptive work on the cross for our lives, but as Christians, we should make this a regular habit of asking ourselves if we are truly living out God’s will for our lives.
This passage took place after Jesus entered Jerusalem in preparation for His sacrifice on the cross. Jesus’ mission was to restore mankind to Himself through the genealogy of Abraham. God’s heart is for the world although He has chosen the people of Israel to bring forth the Messiah. Nonetheless, Jesus was limited in His work because of the physical body that He had, but the hour had come for the Son of Man to be glorified — to suffer for us so that all the families of the earth will be blessed! Jesus was living out the will of God for His life!
Luke 22:42 Saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”
It is God’s intention that we live fruitful lives, which will affect those around us, and in order to bear fruit, we need to live consecrated lives that are focused on living out His will and His calling for our lives.
It is utterly frustrating when we know we have a call but are not fulfilling it. There is a lack of joy, a sense of being out of place and purposelessness. On the contrary, it is wonderful to be walking in the perfect will of God — we will find grace, favour with men, and God will answer our prayers in accordance to His will.
As Jesus always sought the will of the Father, let us be an imitator of Him, and start to live out the will of God for our lives.
John 5:30 I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.
