Jehovah Jireh – Our Lord Is the Provider

Life can be meaningless if we do not appreciate the big picture that God has in stored for us.

Ecclesiastes 1:2-5 Vanity of vanities, all is vanity. What profit has a man from all his labor in which he toils under the sun? One generation passes away, and another generation comes; But the earth abides forever. The sun also rises, and the sun goes down, And hastens to the place where it arose.

If people do not know God and does not understand His love nor have eternity in perspective then all these mad rush for houses, money, power, status, cars and career is totally meaningless. Even as Christians, we will or might echo the same words if we are not aware that God has a divine plan for our lives.

Genesis 22:1 Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.

God was testing Abraham and God will test us too. This is not to tempt us to us because God will not be tempted by evil. Death of a dream or promise is to help us to constantly remember that it is the Lord who called and provided. It keeps us humble. The key lesson is to have a word from God whenever we step out to make a major decision in life with regards to work and ministry because we live our lives for the Lord as He is the Lord of our lives.

Genesis 22:13-14 Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son.14 And Abraham called the name of the place, The-LORD-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the LORD it shall be provided.”

The very act of Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice Isaac, God was able to do the same for His covenant partner by sending Jesus, God’s only Son to die on the same mountain range on Calvary. It paved the way for God to give us the best.

The Hebrew word translated as “The Lord will provide” is Jehovah Jireh. In English we use the verb “provide” although a more accurate translation would be “the Lord is the provider”

Abraham had the faith to trust God to provide the best. Do you believe that God has indeed provided the best offering? We are indeed a family greatly blessed. We respond by blessing the community and the nations. We respond by trusting God concerning finances and consecrating our lives to Him. Let us not live meaningless life and miss the big picture of what God has planned for our lives.
