Good Stewards of God’s Wealth
There is a lot of misconception that God is against Christians being rich. We have concluded that those who are rich do not love God but love the world. We have a subtle belief that godliness is tied to suffering and being poor. If this is our conviction, then one should remain in poverty, lack and business failure during these global economic crises. There is no need to pray for restoration of our businesses and jobs if that is our conviction! This is the lie of the devil from the pit of hell because living in poverty and lack is not a virtue. There are a lot of people who are bitter against God because of poverty and lack which have caused them not to be able to provide for their families.
Adam and Eve were well provided in the Garden of Eden, this shows us provision is in line with the character and nature of God (Jehovah Jireh – our provider).
Deuteronomy 28:12 -13 (NKJV)The Lord will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.
The Covid-19 pandemic has caused many people to lose their health, wealth and loved ones. To conquer this crisis, we need to have a firm foundation in the Word. The same goes for other crises and tribulations in our lives. We have to know that God does not cause tribulations in our lives. God is a good God filled with compassion and mercy. We should have faith in God and trust that He will restore everything back to us.
Philipians4:19 (NKJV) And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
The question we need to ask ourselves is what do we do with our wealth once God brings about restoration after this global economic crisis?
We need to be good stewards of God’s money. We are able to do a lot of good works if we manage the wealth in a godly manner to ensure that we are able to meet the needs of the underprivileged.
Job and Abraham were very rich and influential men. They were tremendous blessings to their communities! Job did not cling on to his wealth, but rather he allowed the wealth God had given him to flow through him to bless others. Job was a good steward of God’s money. He was a distributor instead of a hoarder of wealth. Job used his money to rescue the needy, cared for the handicapped and the dying, and brought orphans into his home. He did all of this without tax exemptions or government assistance. He did it out of his love for people with the money that God had blessed him. Likewise, when God blesses us, He also wants us to be good stewards of His money and a blessing to the community around us.
