God’s Word of Promise
Deut 30:11-14 “For this commandment which I command you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off. It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend into heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it”
Deuteronomy 30 paints a picture of the true blessedness for a people on the earth: gathered, multiplied, blessed, circumcised in heart, thoroughly devoted to the Lord, and in loving obedience to all His precious commandments. Is it possible for us? Yes, we have been given the ability to fulfill all these because we have the Holy Spirit living in us and the full council of the Word of God today. We choose life when we accept Christ into our lives. God brought the Word and His salvation plan to us. In fact, we are in a much better position than the Old Testament saints.
2 Cor 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
We are not under the law when we walk in the Spirit, which empowers us to overcome the flesh that leads to sin. As a new creation in Christ, we are able to yield to the Holy Spirit, have our mind renewed by the Word and walk in the newness of life—in obedience, turn to the Lord and His ways.
Gal 3:13-14 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Neither are we subject to the curses mentioned in the Old Testament as they all stopped at the Cross when we received Christ into our lives. God placed the curse of the law upon Christ who took it and bore it on behalf of us. Jesus has redeemed us from the curse!
We are righteous in Christ, and we are the beneficiary of the Abrahamic covenant—an unconditional covenant for God to bring forth the Messiah and the promise of the Holy Spirit. We are empowered by the Holy Spirit living in us, and we have the Word of God to live victoriously.
