God’s Road to Success
ICS Daily Devotions
Proverbs 10:22 (NKJV) The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.
There are two roads to success: God’s way or the way of the world. The devil will lure us to use his way, but we need to stick to God’s way. We are to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and trust that He will provide for all our needs. When God blesses us with promotion, there will be grace and wisdom for us to do well in our work or business. However, when we strife and do it the world’s way, sorrow will come with it.
We need to teach ourselves and our children that godliness with contentment is great gain because we bring nothing into this world and we cannot bring anything out of this world. God said in the Bible that we will have no lack because we are His children. Some of us will have more than the others, but the important thing is to be good stewards of God’s money that He has entrusted to us.
Money is neutral. Jesus did not say that it is impossible for those who are rich to enter into heaven. Rather, He said it is those who trust in riches rather than in God who will have difficulty going to heaven because money is their god.
We can be successful, rich and love God at the same time, provided that we are taught correctly that the source of our blessings is God. There are many good examples in the Bible like Job, Joseph, Abraham, Moses, Daniel, Solomon who were successful and influential in the government and business sectors and they showed forth the wisdom and blessings of God.
Many young people grew up in church, went to Bible studies and attended Sunday school, but they left the Lord after graduating from universities to carve a career for themselves. Why did they stray from the Lord? It has to do with prospering through the secular worldview of success, the deceitfulness of riches, the desires for other things, and the worries that come in a life without God. All these have choked the Word in their lives.
We can decide whether to allow the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things to choke the Word in our lives, and we do that by shifting from trusting in mammon to having faith in God. When we develop our faith in God by listening to the preaching and teaching of the Word, we will have a very different worldview of riches and success.
