Freed from the Law of Sin and Death
Hebrews 13:4 (NKJV) Marriage is honourable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.
1 Timothy 5:2 (NKJV) older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, with all purity.
Scripture reveals clearly that Christians should not be sexually involved before marriage. The fight for purity is real and should not be taken lightly. Unfortunately, many of such values relating to cohabitation and fornication have crept into the church from the world, which advocates such values through media. Therefore, we need to be careful about we watch on social media, TV or videos because we can be easily aroused by them. Male believers need to have the correct attitude of treating their sisters in Christ with absolute purity and respect before marriage.
Love can wait, which means we are able to have self-control and not commit fornication. Without self-control, it is not love but lust! It is important not to get into the habit of sleeping over at each other’s place or sharing a room or bed when you go on holiday. Because men are aroused by sight and women by touch, it is very difficult to control once a couple starts getting too physical.
Roman 8:2 (NKJV) For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
The law of sin and death applies to everyone just like the law of gravity. The sin nature in a person will cause them to sin and succumb to temptation. In this context, the temptation is living in promiscuity and practising fornication to satisfy the lust of the flesh. However, there is another law operating in us the moment we are saved, which is the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus is empowered by the Holy Spirit, that acts like the law of aerodynamics which counters the law of gravity. What used to hold us down by gravity no longer has its effect once the law of aerodynamics is applied. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus helps us to break free from the bondage of the law of sin and death. Therefore, what used to be the norm, such as fornication, one-night stands and other forms of sexual immorality, that was practised before we were saved do not have a hold over our lives now.
This is possible when we choose to operate in the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus by walking away from temptation, not yielding to the wants and desires of the flesh that pull us away from God. We need to acknowledge that we are free!
