Don’t Be a Doubting Thomas

Hebrews 11:1,6 (NKJV) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen…. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Romans 1:17 (NKJV) For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, ‘The just shall live by faith’.

There is this TV series called Undercover Boss. High-level corporate executives leave the comfort of their offices to secretly take low-level positions to understand what really goes on, on the ground. There were many occasions where the execs got to know staff members on a personal level; their struggles, work ethics, challenges, etc. Through this, work processes, policies, promotions, were effected.

Jesus, the second Person of the Godhead, chose to leave the heavenlies to walk and live for 33 years amongst His people. He is able to empathise and sympathise with our struggles with sin, temptation, and other needs in life. At the end of His earthly mission, He completed the work of redemption and is now praying for us back home, so to speak.

What are you going through in life right now? Is God challenging you to step up in faith to trust Him? Will you allow faith to rise up within you to believe that the Mighty Warrior will fight your battles? Faith is not moved by what is in front of us but is anchored instead on the Word of promise that He has given us.

We will experience the peace of God when we abide in Christ. It builds faith and establishes peace in our hearts and minds when we take time to meditate on the goodness of God and how His love is inseparable from us. Let us not allow doubt to shake our faith.

The Apostle Thomas was sceptical when he heard that Jesus had appeared to some of the disciples (see John 20:24-29) He needed to see this new development with his own eyes. He declared that unless he saw the nail marks on Jesus’ hands and put his hands on Jesus’ side, he would not believe that Jesus was risen. When Jesus appeared to Thomas, He graciously invited Thomas to touch His nail-pierced hands and His side, but He also said that blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.

We serve a Risen Lord so we can be confident that He listens to our prayers especially when we live a consecrated life and walk in His perfect will for us.

As the song goes, ―
Don’t be a Doubting Thomas
Rest fully on His promise
Why worry, worry, worry, worry?
When you can pray
