David’s Steadfast Faith in God
2 Corinthians 4:13(NKJV) And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak,
Faith in God is birthed out of a relationship. It is not a formula from the Bible but a conviction that is grounded in the Word.
You may ask, “Am I saved? Yes, I am saved. Jesus has redeemed me with His blood. I have the son of God in my life through the confession with my mouth and the conviction in my heart that He is my Lord and Savior. Righteousness is imputed to me when I believe in my heart and confess with my mouth”. This is saying what we believe. It is the same principle with all other biblical convictions in our lives. We believe therefore we speak with the spirit of faith in God!
Some people boast in their achievements, people/corporations that they are associated with. In real moments of challenges, they may crumble. However, we as Christians boast in the Lord because our BEST association is with GOD!
1 Samuel 17:34-37, 46-47 (NKJV)But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.” Moreover David said, “The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you!”….. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.”
David walked with God. He had experienced the faithfulness of God in his life. What David was saying in the above scriptures were NOT SOME EMPTY SLOGANS but a deep conviction from the depths of his heart.
David had literally encountered real problems, attacks from brutal lions and bears that had the ability to devour him and his sheep/lambs. As David was a good shepherd, a type of Christ who would lay down His life for His sheep, David went after the devourers i.e. the lions and the bears. He wrestled with the lion and plucked the lamb out of its mouth! He testified that his covenant God delivered him from the mouth of the lion and the bear. Therefore, David said with the conviction of his heart that the same God who had delivered him from the attacks of the lion and the bear, will also deliver him and the Israelites from Goliath!! He believed therefore he spoke. Likewise, we must also speak what we believe and it will be God who will deliver us from our tribulations!
