Cast Your Cares Upon Him
ICS Daily Devotions
Philippians 4:6 (NKJV) Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
1 Peter 5:7 (NKJV) casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
Do you face challenges or problems beyond your control? If so, you need God’s grace. One way to experience God’s grace is to commit everything to Him. Yet many of us prefer to maintain absolute control over our lives rather than seek help from others or from God. Pride hinders us from humbling ourselves before God to ask for His help and intervention. It is God’s will that we live free from anxiety and experience His peace, which is part of the abundant life He has promised us. Jesus has already given us His peace, but we need to keep our minds at peace by casting all our anxieties on Him.
When we are anxious and weighed down by problems beyond our ability to solve, we have a relief valve in the Lord. Casting our cares on Him requires us to honestly express our burdens to Him. Because He cares for us, we can tell Him how we feel and trust that His grace will fill our hearts and carry us through as we surrender every anxiety and worry to Him. The Apostle Paul encouraged us to pray in every circumstance regarding anything that brings anxiety or worry in our lives. We should make it known to God by calling out to Him, because He is a God who hears.
As Christians, we no longer live in this world without hope or without God. Yet when difficulties arise, we often imagine the worst-case scenario. Anxiety is rooted in fear—fear of the unknown and of what may happen. Fear is a spiritual force that can cripple us and keep us from moving forward. It fills our minds with endless possibilities, but does not solve the problem. Fear is a tactic of the evil one, turning our focus away from God and onto the issue instead. In this way, fear steals the joy and peace that God wants us to enjoy.
The good news is that we can bring our burdens to God and rest in His love. He is greater and more powerful than any problem we face, and His resources and wisdom are without limit. Nothing is too difficult for Him. Through the covenant, God has bound Himself to us, so that our problems become His. If He has already dealt with our greatest problem, sin, through our covenant relationship with Him, there is nothing in this life beyond His help. That is why we must understand what a covenant is and see God as our covenant partner, so we may draw from His limitless resources. His covenant love assures us that He will remain with us in both good times and bad. With God as our covenant partner, we are never without hope. In every hopeless situation, there is always the God factor.
Reflection: How is God speaking to you about the way you handle fear and anxiety? What burdens is He inviting you to cast upon Him today?
