Applying Covenant Knowledge with Faith in Our Lives
Jesus Christ has secured us in the covenant made between the Father and Himself. This New Covenant operates by faith and it operates by the Word of God.
By revealing to us His covenant with His Son, God the Father wants to remove any doubts we may have about His ability to keep us.
We are to stay in Christ, abide in Him, trust Him and depend on Him. If we do this, we will surely see His glory. His Words of promise are everlasting.
In 2 Samuel 9:1-13, there is a very clear example of covenant relationship and promise. It was the covenant relationship between David and Jonathan and even after Jonathan had died, David restored everything to Mephibosheth, Jonathan’s son. In the usual practice of most kings, the victor would eliminate everyone that belongs to the former king in case they revolt. But in the case of David, he was mindful of his covenant with Jonathan and even searched out Jonathan’s descendent to restore, bless, love, show kindness of God’s love and to fulfill all that the covenant entails. David restored Mephibosheth from the status of a refugee to that of a prince who dined at his table daily because David took him as one in the family due to his covenant with Jonathan.
Many times, we must have felt like Mephibosheth when we encounter God. Mephibosheth was scared and felt unworthy to receive attention from King David. But we are more than worthy now because of the grace of God and we are made righteous by the blood of Jesus. You are the very son and daughter of God and an heir of God. Al that Jesus has belongs to us in the covenant shed by the blood of Jesus Christ!
In our covenant with God, God is our provider, our shield, our righteousness, our refuge in time of need. He is our healer, our peace, our source of strength, our wisdom and God stands with us in our trials and tribulations!
We need to consciously eat at the King of kings’ table and remember that we have a covenant with God and live according to all that God has restored to us!
