Loaded Words

Genesis 1:3 (NKJV) Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.

God has the highest position and there is no being that is above Him. He is God. There is creative power in the word of God. God spoke creation into being. He said, “Let there be light” and there was light. The spoken word of God is able to create, command demons to flee, restore health to the sick and bring forgiveness to the sinners.

Genesis 1:26a(NKJV) Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;

God has created us in His image. God created us to be able to speak like He does. No other creation is able to speak except mankind. There is also tremendous power in what we say or confess with our mouths. Though we cannot see the spoken words but the effect of them is definitely set into motion the moment they are spoken. They will either give power or authorization for God to act on them or the devil to make use of them to kill, steal and destroy because we are free moral agents!

The words that we say carry power regardless of the position that we hold in society. Of course, the words of those people who hold certain positions of authority come with a certain influence either in the natural or spiritual realm. However, the words that we speak will not just affect the lives of others but they also release the authority over our lives to the enemies or for God to act on them. The devil wants us to speak carelessly and cruelly. He also wants us to curse, be mean and tear down others because it gives him the right to act on what we say to bring about the maximum damage. The tongue is small but powerful.

James 3:5-6 (NKJV) Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.

Words are powerful. They are loaded with the power of life and death. There is an old saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me”. You know that’s a big fat lie, right? Nothing could be further from the truth. Sticks and stones may break your bones, but words can break your heart, ruin your life and hurt others. Words are potent. Therefore, be careful with your words.
