A Personal God

Psalm 121: 3,5-8 He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber…The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.

VIP’s have bodyguards with them wherever they go. Their duties are to protect them from harm and keep them from harms’ ways. Although we may not have the same privilege, we do have someone more powerful and capable in protecting us than bodyguards. He is God—an ever-present help in time of need.

While these are biblical truths, not everyone believes in them because it begins with putting our faith in Him and His Word and looking up to Him as our helper. He is a personal God who bothers to build a hedge around us. We begin by declaring that He is whom we have put our trust and faith in; He watches over us when God is our keeper. Because His eyes are on us, He can protect us in our coming in and going out, and unlike the VIP’s bodyguards, God never gets tired physically.

What we need to do is to begin to release our faith into these truths, by not merely acknowledging them, but acting out in faith. Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Therefore, we begin to declare and be convinced that these words are true, instead of being afraid and paranoid over things that may or may not happen.

Don’t look down when you are hard-pressed on every side, don’t look around or sideways, don’t have a pity-party or be deceived into living in resentment against God. Instead, look up to God for help even when we have fallen or made mistakes. Let’s humble ourselves and make it a choice to reach out to God for help, in faith that He has a good end for our lives. He is a wonderful Heavenly Father who loves us with an unconditional love. Although some of us may struggle to understand the love of the Father because we lack a good role model on earth, let’s take this opportunity to renew our minds that we have a Heavenly Father who is constantly looking out for us, who wants us to look up to Him, rely on Him and have faith in Him. He is availing Himself 24/7 for us to find strength, comfort and solace in Him. He will infuse grace into our hearts as we decide to look up to Him—the creator of heaven and earth, the great I AM and the self-sufficient one.
