Ministry of Angels
Ps 103:20-21 Bless the Lord, you His angels, who excel in strength, who do His word, heeding the voice of His word. Bless the Lord, all you His hosts, you ministers of His, who do His pleasure.
The subject of angels usually gets talked about too much or too little in church, but Scripture tells us that angels have an important ministry. If we can have a proper understanding of angels and their roles, it can make us less fearful and become more confident Christians.
First, according to Hebrews 1:6 which says “And all the angels of God are to worship Him.”, angels are to bless the Lord through worship and service.
Ps 34:6-7 This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them.
Secondly, and more applicable to us, is that angels are sent to encamp around us and to deliver us from our troubles. Thus, no matter whether you are travelling or trapped in a dangerous place, you are protected by a wall of angels around you!
Ps 91: 2-4 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
Thirdly, angels are to heed the voice of God’s Word as spoken through the saints on earth. The authority over our lives is being released through the words out of our mouths. As we have a choice over what we say, let’s choose to declare that God is our refuge and trust! Also, we know that God does not have wings, so God will send His angels to protect you under His “wings”.
Fourthly, angels minister on God’s behalf. When the devil left Jesus after He was tempted in the wilderness for 40 days, we are told that angels came and ministered to Him.
Lastly, Psalm 103:20 says that angels “do God’s word, heeding the voice of His word”. This is best illustrated by Jesus telling the centurion who asked for healing for his servant that 12 legions of angels would be mobilized if He called upon them. Therefore, we can infer from this Scripture that God’s angels are waiting to do His word and will heed His voice to carry out whatever needs to be done for the saints on earth.
Matt 26.53 Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels?
It is worth noting that while in the Old Testament one of the duties of angels was to relay messages from the Lord, this is not the norm for believers today. We are born again and have the ability to receive instructions from the Lord personally through His Word and the Holy Spirit, for Jesus said in John 10:27 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me…”.
Let us apply our faith in the Word of God and eradicate fear from our lives. We can be assured that no evil or harm will come upon us because we have put our trust in Him, and we are surrounded by angels who are with us and are able to protect us in our coming and goings.
