The Experience of Yesterday Is a Preparation for Tomorrow

Someone once said, “the experience of yesterday is a preparation for tomorrow” and therefore, we should never despise the work that God has for us now. There are people who refuse the experience and the preparation. They believe that they are ready and are even greater than their current leader. If Joshua and David in the Old Testament had that attitude, then they would have failed miserably. There is a need for a very different measure of faith for every task that God entrusts to us at different stages of our lives. For example, the faith required at this stage of being the Senior Pastor of ICS is very different from the time of serving under the leadership of a Senior Pastor. Just like Joshua whose responsibility was to listen to Moses while under Moses’ leadership. He had to do so until he was asked to step up to lead the new generation after Moses’ death. Therefore, we need to be obedient and humble to go through a period of preparation and develop our faith in readiness for the work that He has prepared for us. We do not even know what He has in mind for us! Joshua chose to be in the presence of God as he observed how Moses walked with God in the latter part of their journey towards the Promised Land.

Exodus 33:11(NKJV) So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle.

The key to spiritual leadership is to stay connected with God, develop your faith and allow Him to prepare you for what He has purposed for your future.

Do not run ahead of God to promote yourself regardless whether it is in the office or church. There are different levels of faith required to be in the role that God has intended for us. He will promote us at His appointed time. There is safety in God’s timing. There will be God’s grace to help us so that we will not be stressed out and have sleepless nights. He will also mold our character especially in the aspect of humility in order to fulfill the anointing to accomplish the task. We will not be able to possess the anointing and stand in the role that God has intended for us if we do not have the right character, especially in the aspect of humility that Moses and Joshua possessed. Pride will always lead us to a downfall. A fall from grace and we will not end well in ministry and the roles that God has purposed for us in the secular world.

Life is definitely a journey with God. It is a lifestyle of faith and trust that we are in God’s hands.
We can be a blessing in life by humbling ourselves to do whatever is necessary as we work towards the mandate that God has given us. It is when everyone is doing their part and every joint supplies, then the body of Christ flourishes (Ephesians 4:16). All of us should work towards the common goal regardless whether it is in the family, church or company and be a blessing!
