Efficient and Effective Leadership
Everyone is a leader regardless whether we are leading a family, company, cell group, church, non-government organization or government institution. If we are single, then we are leading our lives by making all the decisions. Some singles will even be disappointed with themselves for not being able to make the right decisions at different stages of their lives. We should be able to learn from the Bible and the lives of others. There should also be an in-depth discussion of roles, responsibilities and expectations between husband and wife so that there will be no confusion in what is to be expected from the spiritual head of the house. People have sometimes mentioned that it is not easy leading a family, then how much more complex will it be to lead big organizations with expectations from hundreds or even thousands of people. This is the reason why Christian leaders are required to manage their households efficiently before leading the church.
Exodus 17:2-4 (NKJV) Therefore the people contended with Moses, and said, “Give us water, that we may drink.” So Moses said to them, “Why do you contend with me? Why do you tempt the Lord?” And the people thirsted there for water, and the people complained against Moses, and said, “Why is it you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?” So Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, “What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me!”
The lives of the Israelites had not been easy after the death of Joseph. There was tremendous grace and favor shown to the Israelites by the Pharaoh during the time of Joseph. Unfortunately, the grace and favor did not continue because the Egyptians were threatened by the growing number of Israelites in their midst. They started to oppress the Israelites and God heard their cry for deliverance out of their oppression. God will always raise up a person to help deal with the situation. The main objective was for Moses to lead the people out of Egypt to the Promised Land. The common goal for Moses and the people was to enter the Promised land.
Likewise, all of us should have a common goal as a family, a church and an organization. The common goal for the family should be to enjoy the abundant life where there is love, joy and peace in a Christ-centered home. The common goal for the Senior Pastor and the members of the church is to work on the mandate given to the local church while ensuring pastoral care is shown to the members. In a Christian company, the common goal is to glorify God and be profitable. The leader will not be able to achieve it alone but will need the help and co-operation of everyone. The goals for the family, church and company are achievable if there is sufficient communication regarding the roles, responsibilities and expectations. In order to achieve the desired goals, there will be times when it is necessary for us to lay down our rights and submit to the leadership regardless whether it is in the home, office or church setting. In order to achieve the goals, we also need to operate in faith and humility towards God.
