We are Heirs of God
Many people go to high society gatherings, but the truth is that while many people go there to network looking confident and happy, they are actually struggling with all sorts of issues. Behind every smile and façade, there is a story. It could be a story of a broken marriage, an abused spouse, a deeply emotionally hurt person, or a person who finds life absolutely empty. The gatherings can be quite fake and shallow because to be a person of value, one has to have a status in a well-known company or be someone in high society. At times, we are willing to compromise on all sorts of things in order to upkeep the lifestyle and image in society.
However, we should pursue something that will last forever and that is a life with God. It is the best association we can have in life and it is for eternity. It helps us stand strong and have our heads lifted up. Do not doubt that this association will really help us in this life!
Romans 8:16-17 (NKJV) The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
There is no inheritance without sonship and no sonship without spiritual birth. We have become sons and daughters of the Living God the moment we accepted Christ into our lives. In John 3:3 Jesus told Nicodemus that no one is able to see the Kingdom of God unless they are born again. Therefore, when we personally invite Jesus to come into our lives by confessing that we are sinners and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior, then we are saved!
John 1:12 (NJKV) But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name
We are a new creation in that we have a new spirit man or the inner man. The Holy Spirit who lives in us helps us to operate in the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. We are free from the law of sin and death!
Romans 8:12-13 (NKJV) Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
We are not debtors to the flesh or sinful nature but we have the ability to walk in the Spirit and have an abundant life!
God’s divine power caused our spirit man to be completely new and thus, we are a new creation. We are heirs of God by inheriting His nature into our beings. The nature of God is holy and righteous, and we will act righteously when we yield to the Holy Spirit and choose to walk in the spirit. We can choose to allow love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness and self-control to flow out of our lives.
