You Can Make It Too!
Judges 6:12-14 (NKJV) And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!” Gideon said to Him, “O my lord, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.” Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?”
Although Gideon was included in the “Hall Of Faith” in chapter 11 of the Book Of Hebrews, he, like all the other Old Testament saints mentioned there, was not perfect, without weaknesses or struggles in his life. In fact, the Bible is very truthful in its recording of some of their imperfections, sins and questions that they had for God. As human beings, they were just like us, filled with doubts and struggles, but they chose to have faith in God despite the challenges that they faced. Therefore, take courage that if these characters can make it, so can we!
God will always raise up someone whenever there is a problem or a crisis, and every person that God chooses will have their own struggles, inadequacies and flaws. God doesn’t call the equipped and the perfect, because there is nobody who is worthy, but He does equip those who are called! Every one of us has a unique calling in our lives. Although not everyone is called to full time ministry, every form of profession that we hold is a calling and a form of worship to God—we are called to be the salt and the light of the world. In fact, by maintaining that peace, love and joy in our lives in the midst of the current ever-changing environment is already a great testimony for the Lord.
The three questions that Gideon asked are very relevant to our lives now. In fact, these may be the questions that we have either been asking ourselves inwardly or outwardly.
If God is with us, then why did all this happen to us?
Why don’t we witness all the exploits that we read about in the Bible today?
Has God forsaken us?
Take heart that all these three questions were answered when Gideon responded to God’s call and saw the deliverance of the Lord. Likewise, we will have to respond in trusting God by placing our faith in Him as we experience the current challenges.
