Come to the Table
2 Samuel 9:7-8 So David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.” Then he bowed himself, and said, “What is your servant, that you should look upon such a dead dog as I?”
David sought out Mephibosheth and restored to him all that belongs to him because of David’s covenant with Jonathan. The wonderful news for us is, God is greater than David and God is the originator of covenant!
Mephibosheth called himself a dead dog because he felt worthless. Some of us might also feel the same way because we were all sinners. Some people might have been an alcoholic, adulterer, gambler, divorcee, abusive person or someone who was abused, etc. and feel unworthy before God. We may feel that we deserve to be tormented or receive retribution, but God is saying, “Come to the table!” because God has restored our relationship with Him through the blood of Jesus Christ.
John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name
Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem for he ate continually at the king’s table. We need to consciously eat at the King of kings’ table by remembering that we have a covenant with God and live according to all that He has restored to us. We need to stop thinking that we are unworthy before God or feel that we are not worthy to receive anything when He has already invited us to dine at His table, given us His robe of righteousness through the blood of Jesus Christ and His work of redemption. It is not what you have done but what Christ has done!
In our covenant with God, God is our provider, our shield, our righteousness, our refuge in time of need, our healer, our peace, our source of strength, our wisdom, and He stands with us in our trials and tribulation.
God is our covenant partner just like David and Jonathan were to each other. God has bound Himself to us in this covenant established in His blood, and He will watch over us and help us through every situation. He wants us to dine at His table daily and we have a choice to be in His presence at the dining table.
All that He has belongs to us and we should dine at the King’s table continually and partake of whatever needs that we have in life because we are the children of the King of kings!
