Commitment to Serve
God has the office of the pastors to lead His saints and they are watching over their souls in view of Christ’s second coming. There is a mandate given to the church especially in the ministry and the word of reconciliation. There is a work of the ministry for the church and the role of the local pastor is to lead them in that direction where the work needs to be done.
Exo 18:21-22 Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens. 22 And let them judge the people at all times. Then it will be that every great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they themselves shall judge. So, it will be easier for you, for they will bear the burden with you.
This structure of governance was given by Jethro who was Moses’ father in law. He was advised to delegate responsibilities by appointing leaders over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. This helped Moses not to experience burnout, and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the work.
We should be able to effectively love and serve one another with our gifts.
Commitment is a word that you either love or hate. In fact, it has become a very unpopular word in this time and age because it infringes on our personal rights, privileges and everything that entails in individualism.
We love people who are committed because it’s a good character to have in a worker or colleague. It’s an added strength to the team. We should be known for our commitment as a Christian. A committed worker does a good job and goes the extra mile. He takes ownership over the project and the task given to him. Jesus was so committed to be the ultimate sacrifice, that he bore the pain and endured the cross in order to fulfill God’s will for His life.
He did not quit halfway through the process. The disciples dropped everything that they were doing and committed themselves to the calling until they were martyred.
When someone is committed to the cause they will bear the inconvenience, the sacrifices and the time to fulfill the task at hand.
It takes character to be committed to a home church, to run with the vision of the church and submit under the authority appointed in the local church.
Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?
There is tremendous power in unity when we agree on ministry matter and walk together.
