Loving Your Wives

Eph 5:25-29 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26.that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27.so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. 28. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29.For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church.

All of us need to feel secure in life. Wives need to have a sense of security with regards to their husbands’ love for them in every aspect of the marriage. The very foundation of that security is love.

The Bible’s instruction for husbands is to love their wives as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her. God did not just love us with words but in action by sending Jesus to die for us while we were yet sinners. The greatest security that husbands can give their wives is for them to feel loved through their words and actions. Even though not all husbands are extroverts, all are able to make an effort to show love by action. As Christ gave Himself for us, love is an action and it is demonstrated by giving.

1 John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

While many husbands are working very hard to do well in the corporate world, their wives are ensuring that the home is in order when they look after their kids and their needs. Husbands ought to be aware that their emotional reservoirs might be running on empty if they don’t feel loved and appreciated for all that they have done and given up.

It is very important that husbands take time often to assure their wives by sowing into and topping up their emotional reservoirs by spending time with them, buying them flowers or a gift while on business trip, assuring them that they love them through the words “I love you”, giving them a call from the office etc.

Even though most husbands have very busy schedules, let us intentionally make time for our wives, and love them as Christ loved the church.
