You Are Indispensable
1 Cor 12:12-14 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. For in fact the body is not one member but many.
Scripture says we are all parts of the church, which is the Body Of Christ, so how do we see our church and our role in it?
Most of us will look at the top box of the jigsaw puzzle before buying it because we must like the outcome of the final product. We also realise that a jigsaw puzzle is made up of many pieces, and every piece has to be placed in the correct location with none missing in order for the picture to be completed. Therefore, if the vision of the church and all that she does is represented by the top box, you have to like what she does before joining that church. Meanwhile, as you are one of the many pieces that make up the entire puzzle, you need to be present in order for the picture to be complete—nobody will frame up a jigsaw puzzle with one piece missing. Thus, nobody can shy away from serving the Lord with the gifts and calling that He has entrusted to you or else the church will have something missing, which is you!
The ICS logo is made up of the two Chinese characters “人”and “田”, which mean people and field respectively, and the two characters together form the shape of a building. The word “church” in Greek is “ecclesia” which means a gathering of believers, so you, who are the “人”, are very important. The word “田” represents the harvest field and it has a red cross superimposed on it, which reminds every one of us to look at the harvest field through the eyes and passion of the cross.
Since we are all parts of the church, for the church to be a strong and effective witness for the Lord Jesus Christ, everyone needs to step up to serve God in the various ministries. Not one piece of the jigsaw puzzle can be missing—you are indispensable!
