The Safeguards for Knowing God’s Will

We are blessed to be living in the New Testament time where we are born again, we can pray to the Heavenly Father in Jesus’ name, we have the Spirit of God living inside us, we have the Word of God to lead and guide us. When you have an idea to do something, present the choice that you need to make to God but do not have any preconceived ideas or answers. Lay down our rights to God.

Prov 16:3,9 Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established… A man’s heart plans his way but the Lord directs his steps.

Prov 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.

Commit the plan and strategy to God. Ask God whether if it is His will for your life. You can take time to pray the same prayer for a few days or even up to a month for a major decision. God speaks and put in place some safeguards for us.

Joh 10:27 -28 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand.

2 Tim 3:16 All scriptures is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

For the first, pray and ask God to speak to you primarily through His Word. Ask God for a book, chapter and verse regarding the decision or plan. These words will be very helpful for you in times of challenges after making the decision to proceed and help you to anchor your faith in His Rhema Word.

Rom 8: 14-16 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage to fear, but you receive the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.

Acts 27:9-10 Now when much time had been spent and sailing was now dangerous because the Fast was already over, Paul advised them saying, “Men, I perceive that this voyage will end with disaster and much loss, not only of the cargo and ship but also our lives.

Secondly, be sensitive to the leading and witness of the Holy Spirit. There will be a witness in our spirit whether it is a warning which comes in the form of uneasiness or there is no peace in the decision or there is a peace in your heart regarding the decision over and above the word of assurance from the Scripture given by the Lord to proceed.

Prov 15:22 Without counsel, plans go awry, But in the multitude of counselors they are established.

For the third, seek godly counsel and share with them what you think God is leading you. A testimony of spiritually mature Christians can also help you to make a good decision.

If all these requirements are met, take a step of faith if God has spoken to go ahead with the plan. If God has not spoken, be humble and have the courage to accept a no for an answer. We will have to submit to God when the answer to the prayer of consecration is not what He has in mind for us. It is a form of protection. It is painful to our flesh to not do what we want or like but what is His plan for us. But it is God who has the ultimate wisdom and plan. Submit to God’s guidance and He will turn your life into a blessing!
