Know that You Are a New Creation in Christ

Those who are saved through the perfect work of Christ’s redemption, will be able to live a life with a clean conscience despite our past. We have a righteous position and a new life in Christ. Although this is a positional truth, it does not mean that we are perfect in our ways. The mind still needs to be constantly renewed before walking in total victory over sin.

We are a new creation in the Kingdom of Light, a child of God and a slave to righteousness. We have switched from the Kingdom of darkness, broken free from the bondages of sin through the redemption work of Christ and are no longer led by our senses although we still need to deal with our flesh periodically.

Do not allow the evil one to deceive us that we are still under his control and slaves to sin! For example, Abraham Lincoln decreed through the Final Emancipation Proclamation 1863, that all slaves were to be freed in certain states. This meant that slaves could legally walk out of their masters’ houses in those states. However, there were some slaves who were deceived by their masters that the news could not be true as they had been bought at a price and therefore, could not go free. It wasn’t until they saw other slaves walking freely on the streets that those who were deceived, realized they could break free from slavery and deception.

1 JOHN 3:4-7 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin.6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practises righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous.

There are those who despite their salvation, continue to practise sin willfully or they are ignorant that they have been freed from the slavery of sin! Sin is serious rebellion against God which we needed Christ our Saviour to shed His blood as a propitiation for our sins.

Although we have a right standing with God, we are not perfect. We need to choose to practise righteous living because we are a new creation in Christ. We are able to do this because of Christ’s completed work at the Cross. Do not let the evil one continue to deceive you that you are a slave to sin! Know that you are a new creation in Christ and therefore you are a slave to righteousness!
