Waiting For the Harvest
GALATIANS 6:9 Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the PROPER TIME we will reap, if we do not give in.
The Bible teaches us that we should continually sow wisely in all areas of our lives. These include our speech, our actions, our finances, our Christian moral values and our Christian service to those around us. All of them involve us deliberately making wise choices on a daily basis for what we sow, we will reap.
However, reaping is not an immediate outcome. As in the natural state, the farmer who sows his seeds, has to wait for time to pass before he can reap his harvest. And so too in the spiritual state, we have to wait for the right time to reap our harvest for what we have sown. For example, if we choose to sow words of encouragement, blessing and exhortation in our daily speech, we will reap good relationships with those around us.
Living in Shanghai has made many of us impatient. We can have many things easily at our fingertips. We can order things online and they will be delivered at our doorstep in no time at all. However, we have to remember that this is not the case with reaping a harvest for what we have sown. The time to reap is God’s time. It is the best time. He will not be too early or too late. He will be on time. Therefore, we must be patient and learn to wait for God’s time.
The Scriptures tell us not to grow weary or become discouraged while we are waiting for God’s time to reap. When the season is not right for harvest, we should not be discouraged when we do not see the fruits of what we have sown. Just as in the natural state, there will be no fruits on a tree if it is not the season to bear fruit. So too in the spiritual state. But when the season is due for the tree to bear fruits, there will be many fruits on the tree ready for picking. We need to be patient because different fruits have different seasons.
We have to keep our faith active and alive with God. We are to continue practising the sowing and reaping principle that God has established and our lives will be very much enriched when we practise what we profess to believe. We are to continue to keep walking in love, keep giving when it is time to give and be confident that the harvest time will definitely come!
