All of Us Have a Measure of Faith and We Can Grow In Our Faith

Faith can be measured.

The Bible speaks of:

A measure of faith was given.

Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

Little faith

Luke 12:28 If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith?

Weak faith

Romans 4:19. And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb.

Great faith

Matthew 8:10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.

Matthew 15:28 Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.

Great faith is believing that God’s Word has authority and power. The Centurion was comparing his authority with Jesus’ authority being the Son of God. How much more power and authority Jesus has, who spoke the entire creation into being and who upholds the entire universe with His Word!

The good news is we are able to grow our faith………

Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

What gives substance to our faith is Word that God has spoken to us personally. Faith has to be established on God’s promise and a personal Word from Him. Faith is not established on a prophetic utterance or asking for a sign though these can act as confirmation. Without the Word from God, it would be silly, wishful and presumptuous that God is in it and our faith will be bound to waver.

The Centurion asked for a word. The Canaanite woman’s daughter was healed when she got a word from Jesus.

Faith acknowledges that His Word has power.

The foundation for building strong faith is knowing the integrity of God and His Word. The integrity of God Himself is the integrity of His Word. If God’s Word is not good and cannot be relied upon, then God is not good and cannot be relied upon. God and His Word are one.
