Restore My Soul
Psalms 23:3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
Everything in life is a matter of choice. We either make a choice to walk in the path of righteousness as He leads us, or we walk in the ways of the wicked.
While it is good to have success in life especially if it from the Lord, we need to guard our hearts against pride and lust. King David made the wrong choice in his life when he chose to be led away by his lust of the flesh. He committed adultery with Bathsheba while Israel was in battle and subsequently had her husband Uriah murdered. These displeased the Lord immensely and consequently David’s son with Bathsheba died. The guilt, pain and sorrow caused by the sin tormented David. He repented to the Lord and was forgiven and restored. Thereafter, he chose to walk in the ways of God and carry out His plans for his life.
Psalms 32:1-2 Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered.2 Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit.
Remember that David lived under the Mosaic covenant which the blood of the bulls and goats could not fully remove the people’s sins, but was a yearly reminder which tormented their souls. However, still David rejoiced and gave thanks for his sins being forgiven and covered. His soul was restored.
We are no longer under the Mosaic covenant. God has a better plan for us. Jesus came to establish an everlasting covenant with us by shedding His blood. The shedding of Jesus’ blood caused our sins and lawless deeds to be completely removed. God does not remember our sins and lawless deeds anymore. Therefore our soul is at rest with God. He restores our soul. We can have a clean conscience before the Lord.
Hebrews 10:16-18 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,”17then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”18 Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.
How wonderful it is to know that when we repent our sins to God, we can be assured that we are forgiven of our sins. Our souls are restored and we can have peace with God.
