Do Not Sow In the Flesh
We are a product of our thought life. What we think will lead to what we do unless we can rein in our thoughts and renew our minds with God’s Word. If we choose to sow in our flesh by giving in to disgraceful impulses, worldliness and other sins, then we will reap ruin and destruction in our lives and in our relationships.
Galatians 6:7-8 7.Do not be deceived, God is not mocked [He will not allow Himself to be ridiculed, nor treated with contempt nor allow His precepts to be scornfully set aside]; for whatever a man sows, this and this only is what he will reap. 8 For the one who sows to his flesh [his sinful capacity, his worldliness, his disgraceful impulses] will reap from the flesh ruin and destruction, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
For example, if a person watches pornography which leads to unhealthy and lustful thoughts, then they are very likely to fall into seductive temptations. When this happens, it will cause them to lose the trust from their spouse. Their thoughts have led them to fall by sowing in their flesh. Consequently, they will reap ruin and destruction in their relationships.
Another example, there are Christians who have chosen to continue gambling at casinos, buying lotteries, betting, or even playing mahjong. They have a desire to get rich quickly. They are sowing into their flesh. Some are tempted to keep gambling to recover their losses. Some have even gambled away their life savings or mortgaged their properties to the hilt or even committed crimes to continue gambling. This could lead to broken families, heavy debts, bankruptcy or even imprisonment. What they have sown in their flesh, they have reaped ruin and destruction in their lives.
We can choose to overcome this by renewing our minds with sowing God’s Word into ourselves. We are new creations in Christ and therefore, we can have self-control, be slaves to righteousness, walk in the Spirit and not gratify the desires of the flesh. We have God’s Spirit to empower and enable us to rein in our thoughts.
If we allow God’s Word to be sown into our hearts, then we will begin to reap the harvest of walking in victory. God is not mocked, if we refuse to rein in our thoughts and our flesh, and refuse to have self-control and walk in victory, then we will reap ruin and destruction and continue to be slaves to sin! We have a choice to make in life, choose to make this choice wisely in what you sow. It will make a difference between ruin and destruction or eternal life!
