Bless and Honour the Teachers of the Word
One of the most important areas we should sow into is in the lives of those people who teach us the Word of God. The Biblical principle of sowing and reaping teaches us that what we sow is what we will reap. We are to share what God has blessed us with, with these teachers of the Word.
Galatians 6:6-7 The one who is taught the word [of God] is to share all good things with his teacher [contributing to his spiritual and material support].7.Do not be deceived, God is not mocked [He will not allow Himself to be ridiculed, nor treated with contempt nor allow His precepts to be scornfully set aside]; for whatever a man sows, this and this only is what he will reap.
1 Timothy 5:17 Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially those who labour in the word and doctrine.
The Scripture teaches us that these people are to be honoured. Both Jesus and the Apostle Paul received support from the people whom they took time to minister to. The people in the church of Galatia also provided and looked after their full-time ministers especially the Apostle Paul. They sowed into their ministries through their giving.
Luke 8:2-4 And certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities—Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons, 3 and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance.
We are to honour and bless the people who teach us the Word of God by sharing with them what God has blessed us with. Apart from financial blessings, we can also give them other assistance such as transferring our frequent flyer mileage points to help them upgrade their tickets to a better class so that they are able to travel in comfort and be well-rested before they minister the Word of God to us. We can also transfer our hotel points to them so that they can rest comfortably when they travel to minister to us. These are just some of the ways we can bless and honour those who teach us the Word of God. We can sow into their lives and this is another choice we have to make in life to practise.
We will reap God’s blessings in our lives as we choose to bless and honour those who teach His Word. God is not mocked when we refuse to support His servants. If we fail to do this, He will not be entrusting more to us.
