Tune in to God’s Voice
While we can have the Bible to lead us and godly counsel to bounce off thoughts, our Heavenly Father would also like to speak to us through the Holy Spirit through the still small voice. He will encourage us and lead us. He would like us to have faith in Him.
John 10:27 – My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
Romans 8:14 – For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.
The voice of God is Holy Spirit speaking directly to your spirit man or heart. It is a Spirit to spirit communication and is sensed as a spontaneous and intuitive idea, word, feeling, or vision from the heart.
While not every spontaneous thought is of the Holy Spirit but we need to know spontaneity is heart level communication. We need to adjust our reception from the head to the heart and tune into a flow of spontaneous thoughts rather than cognitive and analytical thoughts which are from the mind.
1Corinthians 2:14 – The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.
Just as God illuminates scriptures to us, He will speak to us through intuition by the prompting of the Holy Spirit and the voice of God.
When our mind is renewed with the truth that the Holy Spirit speaks to our spirit man, then we will not be resistant to pick things up from the heart. Our mind is still important nonetheless, because it will be a check and balance to ensure that what we had perceived is in line with the Word.
There are voices such as the phone, the email, the pressure of work and different responsibilities that demand our attention. However, we need to cease striving, relax and let go. We need to tell our flesh and our minds to be quiet. Focus on God, keep our eyes on Him and the peace will guard our hearts and minds in Christ.
When there is stillness then we will be able to hear the spontaneous thoughts. When we are quiet, God may even sometimes show us visions and dreams.
A good practice is to journal our times when we are tuned in to God. God will speak to us when we speak to Him and it is good to write down our conversation with Him.
