Main Passage: Psalm 19

Sermon Discussion Questions

  1. Psalm 19:2-4 describes the heavens speaking “without speech” or words, and yet their voice goes out to all the earth. What has been your experience with creation in this aspect? What has creation ‘spoken’ to you about God? If you have not had any experience in this dimension, what can you do now to hear God’s ‘wordless speech’?
  2. David calls God’s law perfect, trustworthy, right, pure, and ‘more precious than gold” (7-10). Share your experience if these words match your interaction with God’s word. If not, what do you think might be getting in the way?
  3. In verse 12, David asks ‘who can discern his errors’ and prays to be cleansed from hidden faults. Why might we be blind to our own sin? How can we help one another to see what we cannot see alone?
  4. Psalm 19 ends with a prayer that our words and the “meditation of my heart” would please God (v. 14). How does this closing prayer tie together the psalm’s movement from the cosmos, to the law, to the personal heart? What would it look like to pray like this daily?
