Reap What You Sow In Your Words

What we choose to say in our daily lives affects us and those around us. We will also get what we say in life. This is a form of sowing and reaping. This is an area of our lives that we have to make wise choices in regards to what we say, for we will reap what we say.

Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked [He will not allow Himself to be ridiculed, nor treated with contempt nor allow His precepts to be scornfully set aside]; for whatever a man sows, this and this only is what he will reap.

Proverbs 18:20-21 A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth; From the produce of his lips he shall be filled. 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

Your words are powerful. They release the authority of your life either to God for Him to work on it, or for the devil to make an inroad into your life after you have given him the authority to what you have said. Words are uttered out of our belief system. Jesus said that we will speak from our mouth from the abundance of our heart.

For example, if our spouse has lost their job, we might call them a loser, tell them that they will amount to nothing in life and hurl other insults at them. We are speaking and sowing curses and condescending words. These words will destroy the person’s self-esteem and stick in their minds as they go for interviews. We will reap what we have sown. How can we expect our relationship to be good if we are so vicious and mean to one another?

God is not mocked when we refuse to speak words of encouragement, blessings and exhortations to those whom we love. We will reap strained and broken relationships. However, if we choose to speak words of encouragement, blessings and exhortations to those around us, we can enjoy peace, love and joy. It may not come naturally to some of us but it is a choice that we make in life to practise.

God has given us the freedom to choose. We need to exercise the freedom to choose wisely when it is within our power to do so and follow God’s precepts in order to enjoy the abundant life that God offers us.
