Walk With Him
ICS Daily Devotions
Psalm 23:1-6 (NKJV) The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.
Many people yearn for someone to walk with them. The wonderful truth is that God Himself offers to walk with us daily. He is a good listener and empathetic when others cannot be. Moreover, He shares His wisdom and ideas with us and can lift the unbearable burdens from our shoulders. In addition, He will remind us of His promises. As a result, we will feel refreshed and renewed in His presence. Over time, we come to recognise His voice in quiet conversations. Through this, the inner man, or the heart, is strengthened throughout this walking journey. Ultimately, this is part of knowing God through your prayer life and listening to Him.
Christianity was never intended to be a set of formulas to follow but a personal relationship with God. Preachers and teachers can guide us, but cannot substitute for our personal walk with Him. We come to know God by including Him in our journey on earth.
David understood this truth. Psalm 23 touches every aspect of human experience—fear, danger, death, needs, comfort in emotional turmoil, protection, provision, and the joy of being in God’s presence. It helps us understand how God journeys with someone and reveals God’s character. It also helps us to prioritise our lives with God. God must be first in our lives, and our walk with Him must be real.
God is still raising men and women of God in these end times—those who are full of faith in Him and walk out His plan in their lives, just as David did. People who know their identity in Christ are stable, steady, and secure individuals. They live intentionally and purposefully for the Lord and take the Lordship of Christ seriously. They strive to be faithful and accountable stewards of all that He has blessed them with and entrusted to them. They do not seek God’s hand but seek His face as a priority in their lives.
Reflection: What does it mean for you personally to “dwell in the presence of the Lord”? What habits or distractions pull you away from walking closely with Him each day?
