Know the Person of the Holy Spirit

1 Corinthians 2:11-14 (NKJV) For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

The above Scripture contains some timeless truths that are still applicable to us today:
1) God loves us, and we love Him.
2) God’s wisdom can only be known by His children because they have His Spirit within them.
3) God has a will for us.
4) The Holy Spirit teaches us and will reveal the things of God to us.
5) We can discern things spiritually.
6) We have the mind of Christ.

The natural man—those who have yet to be born again— cannot understand the things of the Spirit of God because they are foolishness to him. Their eyes have been veiled, and the god of this age has blinded them from understanding the gospel.

However, as born-again believers, we have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. He will teach us all things, even though it may take some time for us to become comfortable with spiritual matters, especially the ways in which God reveals things to us. Some of us may have strong minds and therefore struggle with being led by the Holy Spirit, whom we cannot see. Nonetheless, we will understand once we have renewed our minds and have the mind of Christ.

We need to constantly remind ourselves that God didn’t abandon us after He saved us. In fact, He has placed the Holy Spirit in our hearts so that He can comfort, counsel, teach, and lead us daily. The Christian life is a lifetime of unlimited and profound experiences with the Almighty God.

We must have the mind of Christ so that we are receptive to His counsel, wisdom, and guidance. We are not spiritual orphans. Instead, we have a Heavenly Father who loves us unconditionally. Sadly, many Christians are unfamiliar with the voice of the Holy Spirit because they are either not open to His guidance or have not recognised His voice. They need to know the Person of the Holy Spirit.

The things of God cannot be received intellectually or academically. Instead, we must know the Person of the Holy Spirit. It takes faith to walk with the Holy Spirit, and we need to spend time in His presence to know Him and be in a close relationship with Him. Lastly, we need to know the Bible and have God’s Word in our hearts and minds so we can discern whether what we are receiving is from the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit and the Word of God will always agree with each other.
