Unshaken In Christ
1 John 4:17-19 (NKJV) Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love Him because He first loved us.
The perfect love of God is unconditional. God first loved us while we were sinners, imperfect and worthless. He knows our condition. Therefore, this truth should set us absolutely free from fear. There is nothing to fear if God is for us and not against us. Our salvation is entirely based on God’s abundant grace towards us. It is not by works. We will not be able to add anything to our salvation by our action.
The verse says, “as He is, so are we in this world”. The “He” in this verse is referring to Jesus while He was walking on this earth. Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is righteous, holy and blameless in the presence of God. He is connected with the Heavenly Father. What a blessing for us that God decided to walk on this earth in the person of Jesus Christ!
Remember, all the spiritual blessings that God has given us in Christ are connected with being accepted by God. We are redeemed and have our sins forgiven because of the blood of Jesus. We have the right to be His children (John 1:12). We are seen as righteous and holy because that is how He sees us in Christ. The blood of Jesus that was shed for us gave us the right standing with God. This is the love of God manifested in what Jesus has achieved for us.
