Be Conscious of His Presence
ICS Daily Devotions
John 14:17 (NKJV) the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
The Holy Spirit has been assigned to help every believer, but if we want to be led by Him, we will need to know the person of the Holy Spirit, and not let Him be a stranger in our lives. We should get used to His leading in every aspect of our lives.
We need to be conscious of the Holy Spirit’s presence and spend time talking to Him so that we can get to know Him better. For example, while having a conversation with a friend or a business meeting, we can be listening to the prompting of the Holy Spirit at the same time. He will give us guidance regarding what to say and what to do by imparting practical wisdom to us. It is a three-way conversation.
Friendship with the Holy Spirit can only be developed through actual companionship. It is an inclusive relationship where we involve Him in our lives. He will always be with us in all circumstances because He dwells in us. He has taken residence in our hearts the moment we were saved. Because He is holy, He is very sensitive. Therefore, we will hear His prompting from within us, which can be a still small voice but also an authoritative voice if the matter is urgent, concerns unethical or immoral actions, or involves imminent danger.
The Holy Spirit dwells in every believer of Jesus Christ just as Jesus has promised. This indwelling of the Holy Spirit would not have been possible if we had not been washed and cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. Because we have been imputed with His righteousness, the Holy Spirit resides in us. We have received the Holy Spirit into our hearts through God’s unmerited favour.
The Holy Spirit is also a seal of our salvation and an identification that we belong to God. The Holy Spirit living in us is an assurance of our salvation. All believers, regardless of age, have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in their hearts. Therefore, children can be led by the Holy Spirit if they have been well-trained and taught with the Word of God. In fact, children can tap into the gifts of the Holy Spirit, be led by the Spirit, and exemplify the fruit of the Holy Spirit in their lives, because compared to adults, they are much less affected by rationalism, reasoning, and other natural factors that cause doubt—they just believe! Therefore, if we want to get help from the Lord to deal with all the uncertainties that we are facing, we will need to be conscious of His presence in us, and always be ready to listen.
