Every Knee Shall Bow and Every Tongue Confess
ICS Daily Devotions
Matthew 28:18 (NKJV) And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
There is tremendous power in the name of Jesus for several reasons. It is backed by deity because it was chosen in heaven by the Heavenly Father, and it is backed by His conquest and is above all names. All the authority, all the achievements, and all the power are found in the name of Jesus.
This opening verse is when Jesus said when He gave the last commission before He ascended to heaven. It means He has already finished the work of redemption, defeated Satan and the fallen angels, and given us the ministry of reconciliation. This is the reason why Jesus gave the Church—the body of believers—the vested authority to use His name to set the captives free, cast out demons, and heal the sick. Because all authority belongs to Jesus, demons bow to His name. Therefore, we can use the name of Jesus to set people free from demonic oppression and possession if they desire to be freed.
Matthew 18:20 (NKJV) For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”
Jesus guaranteed that His presence would be with us whenever and wherever we are gathered in His name. We can have faith and confidence in His presence and the answer to prayer when it is prayed in His Name. Therefore, use the name of Jesus to pray the prayer of agreement with your spouse or cell group members because the whole of heaven listens to that name, demons are subject to that name, and angels are dispatched when prayers are prayed in Jesus’ name!
Philippians 2:9-11 (NKJV) Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
There is only one name that will cause heaven to act, and the entire hell to tremble and that’s the name of Jesus. God has invested everything in the name of Jesus. It is Jesus who has redeemed us from the curse of sin, spiritual death, and eternal separation from God. Therefore, whoever calls upon the name of the Lord and acknowledges everything that Jesus has done for us on the cross of Calvary will be saved. There is no other name to be saved except through the name of Jesus.
