Meditating On God’s Realities
Philippians 4:8 (AMP) Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
The Word of God gives us clear instruction as to what we should be meditating upon. Meditate on what is pure. Life Application Bible Commentary says “pure thoughts” (hagnos) means free from contamination, blemish, unmixed and unmodified thoughts; they are wholesome. I am a child of God. I belong to the Kingdom of Light and the Kingdom of God. I am a new creation. I have been set free from sin and I am no longer a slave to sin. Sin has no power over me. I walk in the spirit of life in Christ Jesus because I have been set free from the law of sin and death. The Holy Spirit who lives in me empowers me to live a holy and godly life. I can choose to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh. The Spirit gives me life and infuses strength in me to overcome temptation and sin. No temptation is able to overtake me because God will help me to stand upright.
Meditate on what is praise worthy, instead of being fretful, grumpy or complaining about people or even God. Praise God that He first loved us. Praise God that we are a new creation. Praise God that He has redeemed us and has forgiven us because of the blood of Jesus Christ. Praise God that we are accepted in the Beloved. Praise God for the wonderful privilege of being able to have the right to become His children. Praise God that He sees us as holy and blameless in Christ. Praise God that He is a God who has promised not to leave us nor forsake us. Praise God that the Holy Spirit who is in us is greater than the one in the world. He gives us wisdom and guides us daily. We praise God that He is a covenant watching God who watches over His covenant to a thousand generations. Praise Him that He has heard our prayers and will deliver us.
Meditate on whatever is lovely. As a new creation, we have the nature of God in us. The nature of God is love, therefore we are able to love our enemies and those who make life difficult for us. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Phil 4:13). Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous of your colleagues’ or neighbors’ blessings while you are suffering. God keeps no record of our wrong doings, and therefore, we will not keep record of what others have done to us wrongly.
Mediate on God’s provision for our finances. Praise God that God shall supply all our needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus (Phil 4:19). Praise God that He will open the flood gates of heaven to pour down blessings so that there is not enough room to contain it as we tithe faithfully and obediently (Malachi 3:10). Praise God that He will multiply the seed that we have sown through freewill offerings (1 Cor 9). Praise God that God is our Jehovah Jireh, Provider. Praise God that we need not worry about anything as our Heavenly Father knows our needs. Praise God that if He feeds the sparrow and looks after the lilies in the field, then He will also feed and clothe us.
Mediate on healing. Praise God that death has lost its sting and we are not fearful of death because we are accepted by God and heaven is a beautiful place. There is no more pain, sorrow and tears. Praise God that He is Jehovah Rapha, our Healer. Praise God that healing is a process while miracle is instantaneous. Praise God that by the stripes of Jesus we are healed and He has borne all our sins and sicknesses.
The key to keeping the peace of God in our heart and our mind is meditating on the truths of God revealed to us through His Word.
