Being Led by the Spirit of God

Romans 8:14, 16 (NKJV) For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. … The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

Have you ever struggled to understand certain passages of the Bible? It can be challenging for our finite mind to fully grasp everything that has to do with God, especially where it concerns the Holy Spirit and His works. Our infinite God has been expressing Himself to us through the third person of the Godhead since the ascension of Christ, and throughout the history of the church. The Holy Spirit was sent on the day of Pentecost to make His dwelling in the believers and to impart power to us. And He continues to play an active role in the life of the church and the believers today.

God desires to have fellowship with mankind; He created Adam and Eve. And after their fall, He provided the way for all who have accepted Jesus into their lives to have a restored relationship with Him through the shed blood of Christ. In fact, because of the cleansing power of the blood of Christ, we are able to become vessels for the Holy Spirit and He takes up residence in our heart. And now the Holy Spirit is able to be present with us 24/7 and is available to help us anytime and anywhere, without hindrance by time or distance. The Holy Spirit is very gentle and will not impose His ways on us, we have to choose to yield to Him. It would be foolish of us not to embrace the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives, since God has sent Him to be our helper, comforter, counselor, teacher and strengthener. We need to be comfortable with His leading and to live a surrendered life so that He is able to direct our steps. Sometimes, because we have somehow neglected the gentle prompting, leading and inner witness of the Holy Spirit, we are unable to sense His presence and end up complaining and asking God where He is when we need Him the most. Yet He promises through His Word that He is always there for us, we just need to know how to tune in to His voice.

In fact, if we do not learn to tune in to how the Holy Spirit speaks to our heart, it will affect the choices that we make in life, especially if we want to follow God, serve Him, operate in the gifts of the Holy Spirit and to walk in His will. The Holy Spirit will drop spontaneous thoughts into our heart which will be processed through the mind before we respond to what He has spoken to us. If we are not familiar with how the Holy Spirit leads us, we will not be able to flow with Him in exercising the gifts of the Holy Spirit and effectively minister to others on His behalf.
